It was a really great night for a joint poetry reading. The air was cooler than usual and a bit balmy. Coffee and beer flowed from Drip. People gradually settled in. We were happy to host a #RHINO40Readings40Cities for poetry journal RHINO’s 40th anniversary.
We kicked off the event with an open mic where people from the community read some selections from RHINO’s past issues.
Mark Rodehorst kicks off the open mic.
Maya Marshall reads her own poem from the 2016 RHINO issue.
Our feature readers were Liz Countryman, Jada Ach, Jennifer Bartell, Emylisa Warrick, and Joy Priest. They read one poem from RHINO as well as a poem of their own.
Liz Countryman reads “Baudelaire” by Richard Jones from the 2015 RHINO issue.
Jada Ach reads several of her pieces.
Jennifer Bartell reads “Lola” by Ross Losapio from the 2016 RHINO issue.
Emylisa Warrick reads “Siren” by Amy Grimm from the 2015 RHINO issue.
Joy Priest reads “Post-Diagnosis” by Sam Sax from the 2016 RHINO issue.
And thank you to Ethan Fogus for bringing the quirky energy and corny jokes as tonight’s emcee.
Special thanks to RHINO poetry journal, Drip coffee house, and all those who supported and came to the reading.
